Eligibility Requirements
Living with a disability or supporting someone who does often requires specific modifications to your home or vehicle. We understand these adaptations can be costly. That's why you may be eligible to access your superannuation early to cover these essential expenses.
Who Can Apply
You may qualify to release your super if you meet the following criteria:
- You or your dependent has a severe disability
- The disability causes substantial limitations in everyday activities
- You need specific modifications to accommodate these special needs
Eligible Modifications
Super can be accessed for these disability-related modifications:
Home Modifications
- Wheelchair ramps (indoor and outdoor)
- Handrails and grab bars
- Adjusted kitchen cabinetry heights
- Accessible bathroom fixtures
- Widened doorways
Vehicle Modifications
- Wheelchair ramps, hoists, or lifts
- Hand controls replacing pedals
- Specialised seating modifications
- Automatic transmission conversion
- Adaptive steering and control systems
Other Eligible Expenses
- Disability aids and assistive technology
- Purchase of a new modified vehicle (when existing vehicle cannot be modified)
What's Not Covered
The following expenses are not eligible for early super release:
- Regular home renovations unrelated to disability needs
- Everyday living expenses
- General vehicle maintenance or upgrades
- Modifications for someone else's home or vehicle
